Baseball is a 7 week program that runs May through June. Children 5-13 years old may participate. Practices will run once a week; these practices will be separate for juniors (5-8 years old) and seniors (9-13 years old). Every week will include attendance, warm-up, and stretching prior to any skills and drills being started. Over the course of seven weeks the seniors will cover a variety of skills and strategies including: proper swinging, pitching, catching, throwing, batting, infield and outfield strategies and skills, teamwork, strategy and sportsmanship. Following the drills portion, a baseball game will conclude the practice to allow players to apply what they have just learnt in a game situation. The seven weeks will conclude with a tournament for seniors where the children will get to perform their learned skills in a series of friendly competitive games
In the junior program emphasis will be placed on rules and basic skills needed in order to play the game of baseball. Over the course of the seven weeks the juniors will cover: object of the game, the rules, scoring, bases and positions on the diamond, proper swinging, batting, throwing, catching, teamwork, sportsmanship, and infield/outfield roles in the game. The skills will be taught through a series of drills and games, and each practice will conclude with a T-ball game to allow children to apply what they have learned.
